From 27 September 2026, every store selling to EU consumers must show a harmonised legal‑guarantee notice on its product pages — and, for qualifying products, the GARAN durability label. This is the complete, one‑page reference: what must appear, at what size, in what form, and which parts you may not touch.
Where the rules come from
The obligation sits in the EU Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU), amended by the “Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition” Directive (EU) 2024/825. The exact design and content are fixed by Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960, directly applicable in every Member State and in force from 27 September 2026.
The two things you must show
1. The harmonised legal‑guarantee notice — mandatory
A reminder that every product carries a legal guarantee of at least two years (possibly longer under national law), the remedies available, practical steps, and a QR code to the EU “Your Europe” portal. It is an official graphic you display exactly as‑is.
2. The GARAN durability label — mandatory when the product qualifies
When a producer offers a durability guarantee that is free of charge, covers the whole product, and lasts more than two years — and makes that known — you must show the harmonised GARAN label.
The notice is shown on (almost) every product; the GARAN label appears whenever a qualifying long‑term guarantee exists.
Exactly what must appear
The legal‑guarantee notice
- Online: colour (RGB) — black‑and‑white is not allowed online.
- No edits — none of its elements may be changed.
- Prominent — the shopper must be able to see it before buying.
- A working QR code to the country‑specific “Your Europe” page.
- Print / in‑store: colour or black‑and‑white; minimum size A4.
The GARAN durability label
- Online: colour, and it may use a nested display — but the full label must open on the first click, roll‑over or tap.
- Only three editable fields: the duration in years (XX), the brand/trademark, and the model identifier. Everything else — title, legal‑guarantee reminder, QR code, calendar symbol, EU‑language translations — is fixed.
- Font: Inter (Regular, SemiBold, ExtraBold).
- Print: minimum 95 × 100 mm (at that size: 7 pt translations, 9 pt brand/model, 80 pt for the years). Scale it as a whole — no distorting or separating elements.
Exact colours (both graphics)
- Blue #003399 · Yellow #FFED00 · Black #000000 · White #FFFFFF.
Why this is harder than it looks
On paper it sounds simple: show two graphics. In a real store it isn’t. The catch is that everything has to be correct, per product, in the right language, and kept that way — indefinitely.
- Per‑product logic. The GARAN label may apply to one product and not the next, depending on the producer’s guarantee. Someone has to decide that for every SKU — and redo it when the catalogue changes.
- 24 languages. The notice must be in the shopper’s language. Maintaining 24 correct versions by hand is a project in itself.
- Pixel‑exact, unedited graphics. A recreated or restyled version is not compliant. Exact colours, the right font, correct proportions.
- Nested behaviour. If you collapse the label, it must fully expand on the first interaction — easy to get subtly wrong.
- It never “stays done.” New products, changed guarantees, theme updates — each is a chance for a page to fall out of compliance without anyone noticing.
None of this is hard to understand. It is just tedious, repetitive and unforgiving — the kind of task that quietly drifts out of date and only surfaces once it is a problem.
Two ways to comply
By hand. Download the official graphics, translate and place them, decide per product whether the label applies, and maintain all of it as your store evolves. Possible — but it is permanent overhead, and a single wrong or altered graphic defeats the purpose.
Automatically. A dedicated plugin renders the correct official notice and GARAN label on every product page, in the shopper’s language, with the label appearing only where it qualifies — and keeps it right as your catalogue changes.
